The 39th Tokyo International Film Festival has officially dropped its poster for the 2026 edition!
Following last year’s groundbreaking concept of pairing a legendary graphic designer with a visionary filmmaker, this year’s stunning visual is a collaboration between designer Oshima Idea and acclaimed director O Mipo (The Light Shines Only There, Living in Two Worlds).
Creative Details:
The Star: Captured by cinematographer Tanaka Hajime, the poster features rising young actor Shimada Tetta, a lead Japanese star from O Mipo’s upcoming 2025 film How Dare You?.
Look: Dressed in a baggy men’s suit, the child serves as a symbolic bridge connecting youth with adulthood, beautifully mirroring how cinema transcends generations.
2026 Theme: "Connecting - Cinema Connects Us to the World Beyond"
In a world increasingly marked by political and cultural divisions, this year's festival highlights film as the ultimate empathy machine. While news headlines present global conflicts as distant facts, cinema invites us into human stories - making the pain, joy, and experiences of others our very own.
