Rise of the Muse: How Mai Davika and A Useful Ghost Spark a Thai Cinema Renaissance

The red carpet of the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) transformed into a stage for a historic homecoming. But this wasn't just any star-studded appearance, it was Thai superstar "Mai" Davika Hoorne.

Busan South Korea - Fresh from a triumphant swept at the 78th Cannes Film Festival where her latest feature "A Useful Ghost", secured the prestigious Grand Prix at Critics’ Week. Mai Davika arrived at the Busan Cinema Center on 17 September 2025, not just as a global fashion icon, but as the face of a Thai film industry renaissance. 

At the evening, Davika chose a look that mirrored the film's own blend of the surreal and the sublime. Clad in a voluminous, architectural custom ball gown by Paris-based designer Stephane Rolland. She moved with a statuesque grace that halted the frantic flashbulbs of the international press. The choice of Rolland perfectly underscored her transition from a regional superstar to a formidable presence on the global festival circuit. 

"A Useful Ghost" by Thai director "Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke", Mai portrays as Nut, a woman who dies from respiratory failure due to dust pollution, only to return as a ghost possessing a vacuum cleaner. It is a role that demands a delicate balance of deadpan humor and poignant vulnerability. 

The film made its long-awaited Asia premiere in Busan International Film Festival. This isn't just a story about a haunted appliance in a storage, it’s a sharp political allegory and a testament to the "soft power" which  Thailand is currently projecting across the globe. 

For Mai Davika, Busan was more than a stop on a press tour, it was a victory lap. In the intersection of high fashion and global attention cinema in Asia, she has found her most compelling role yet, a muse for a new era of storytelling about Thai ghost.

โมเมนต์ประวัติศาสตร์ที่ต้องจารึก! เมื่อพรมแดงเทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติปูซาน (BIFF) ครั้งที่ 30 ที่ผ่านมา ไม่ใช่แค่รันเวย์ของซุปตาร์ธรรมดาๆ แต่แปรเปลี่ยนเป็นเวทีต้อนรับการกลับมาอย่างผู้ชนะของตัวแม่ฝั่งไทย "ใหม่-ดาวิกา โฮร์เน่" ที่นาทีนี้สปอตไลท์ทุกดวงทั่วโลกต้องสาดส่องมาที่เธอ!

หลังจากสร้างตำนานพาภาพยนตร์ไทยเรื่องล่าสุดอย่าง "A Useful Ghost" (ผีใช้ได้ค่ะ) ไปผงาดกวาดรางวัลใหญ่อย่าง Grand Prix จากสาย Critics' Week ในเทศกาลภาพยนตร์เมืองคานส์ ครั้งที่ 78 มาหมาดๆ ล่าสุด "น้องใหม่" ขอกลับมาเยือนเอเชีย ตบเท้าเข้าสู่ Busan Cinema Center อย่างสมศักดิ์ศรี ไม่ใช่แค่ในฐานะแฟชั่นไอคอนระดับโลก แต่เธอคือ "ตัวมารดา" ผู้เป็นตัวแทนของอุตสาหกรรมภาพยนตร์ไทยที่ยุคฟื้นตัวกลับมาผงาดบนเวทีโลกอีกครั้ง!

"เครื่องดูดฝุ่น"! ซึ่งเป็นบทบาทที่ท้าทายขั้นสุด เพราะต้องอาศัยการแสดงที่บาลานซ์ระหว่างตลกร้ายหน้าตาย และความเปราะบางที่แสนสะเทือนใจได้อย่างกลมกล่อม โดยภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้ได้เดินทางมาเปิดตัวฉายรอบพรีเมียร์ฝั่งเอเชียอย่างยิ่งใหญ่ที่ปูซานเป็นที่แรก

第30回釜山国際映画祭の開会式でタイ映画『A Useful Ghost』の女優マイ• ダービカーさんが、『ステファーヌ・ロラン』のドラマチックなドレスで登場した。レッドカーペットに降り立った瞬間、一瞬周りも静寂に包まれたみたいになって、直後に無数のフラッシュが炸裂した。ミステリアスな色香と気品を湛えた足取りでレッドカーペットを歩き出し、再定義されたタイホラー映画の世界観を見事に体現し、観る者を陶酔させた。
