Japanese singer/actor Kento Nakajima and actress Mei Hata as official ambassadors for the Music Awards Japan (MAJ) 2026 co-hosted the nomination announcement press event at Tokyo Node on 30 April 2026.
During the nomination event, both ambassadors shared their personal picks and excitement for the awards. Kento Nakajima highlighted his interest in the Best J-POP song category and emphasized that J-pop's strength lies in its melody. Mei focused on the Best K-POP Song nominees and praised the unique beauty and "wordplay" of the Japanese language.
J-pop titan Kenshi Yonezu leads the 2026 nominations with a staggering 18 nods across 63 categories. His hit "IRIS OUT" alone earned nine nominations, including Song of the Year and Best Global Hit from Japan. Other top contenders include Fujii Kaze (10 nominees), HANA (9 nominees), and Mrs. GREEN APPLE (9 nominees).
The Awards Ceremony is set on June 13, aims to prove that Japan is a global music hub where city Pop, Jazz fusion and Anime culture can coexist as mainstream excellence.
