TIFFCOM 2025: Tokyo Gap-Financing Market Reveals 23 Selected Projects!

TIFFCOM (Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) Contents Market) will hold the 6th Tokyo Gap-Financing Market (TGFM) , which will open at Tokyo Portcity Takeshiba, PORT STUDIO from October 29 to October 31, 2025. TGFM serves as a platform for selected feature-length film projects in the financing stage; TIFFCOM provides one-on-one meeting opportunities with industry professionals in order to support project development and financing. TGFM features film projects which have secured at least 60% of the entire budget and contain Asian elements.

This year's TGFM selected numerous projects from Southeast Asian cinema, featuring a diverse array of live-action and animated projects from directors who have won significant international acclaim. Further enriching the lineup, and the last year the Japan-Italy Film Co-production Agreement came into effect,

# Projects from Southeast Asia Showcasing Exceptional Talent Active Globally

- Director DIEP Nguyen Hoang, whose debut feature Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere premiered at the Venice Film Festival and won the FIPRESCI Prize.

- Director Don Josephus Raphael Eblahan & Producer Alemberg ANG: A project by director Don Josephus Raphael Eblahan, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival for The Headhunter’s Daughter, and producer Alemberg ANG, co-producer of Cannes Film Festival entries Renoir (Official Competition) and PLAN75 (Un Certain Regard).

- Director Rafael MANUEL, who won the Silver Bear Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival for his short film Filipiñana and will now present his feature project. - and three other live-action feature projects included.

# Two projects selected from the rapidly growing Southeast Asian animation industry

- Philippine director John Aurthur MERCADER (founder of leading 3D studio Puppeteer Animation Studios) with his poignant debut feature rooted in cultural storytelling.

- A project from Indonesian director Ronny GANI, a veteran of international collaborations with studios like Lucasfilm on franchises such as The Avengers.

# First-ever Japanese feature-length animation project selected

- A highly anticipated collaboration between GENCO Inc. (producer of In This Corner of the World and Mobile Police Patlabor EZY) and director Ayumu Watanabe (known for his work on numerous Doraemon films).

- A battle anime set in Edo-period Japan directed by Kazuaki Kuribayashi, whose pilot film has already amassed over 5 million views online.

# International Co-Productions with Japan

- A Japan-Korea project adapting a Japanese manga, directed by rising Korean talent JANG Kun-jae. - A Spain-Japan co-production by director Pedro COLLANTES, set in Tokyo.

- A Japan-Taiwan project from director Natsuki Seta, whose latest work, Ikoku Nikki, also known as Diary of a Strange Land, has been praised at festivals worldwide.

The lineup is further diversified by projects such as an Asia-Europe co-production from acclaimed Turkish director Melisa ÖNEL; a supernatural horror film by Japanese-Brazilian director Diogo HAYASHI; a fantastical project from multi-talented Taiwanese director François CHANG; and three other Japanese live-action feature projects.
