Hirokazu Kore-eda's MONSTER premièred in Cannes 2023

Monster (Kaibutsu, 怪物), the latest work by a Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, premièred in the 76th Cannes Film Festival on 17 May 2023, starring by Sakura Ando, Eita Nagayama, Soya Kurokawa, Hinata Hiiragi and Yūko Tanaka.

What we expected to see from Monster? Look back to Kore-eda's previous film "Shoplifters" which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2018, it revealed the untold problems in Japan such as the poverty among the people in labour class, bullying, uneducated children and many of them preferred to hide their social status.

Different from what foreigner travelers thinking of Japan, the secret of each character in the film showing the dark side of Japan which most people avoid to mention like a Korean film "Parasite". 

Monster, his latest film depicts the heartwarming story of two boys which sparks an issue about LGBTQ situation in Japan today. Cannes Film Festival runs until 27 May with 21 films in competition include "Monster".
