Actress Kikuchi Rinko is named as navigator for Tokyo Film Festival this year

The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) announced to unveil the poster image for this year’s 37th edition, to be held from October 28 through November 6, 2024. Celebrating the joy of watching films at TIFF, particularly in the movie theater, the poster features acclaimed actor Kikuchi Rinko, this year’s festival navigator.

Kikuchi entered the limelight in 2006, when she was nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Babel by Alejandro González Iñárritu, and has since appeared in many films by foreign directors, including Norwegian Wood (2010) by Tran Anh Hung, Pacific Rim (2013) by Guillermo del Toro, and Endless Night (2015) by Isabel Coixet. Last year, she won the Best Actress Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival for Yoko by Kumakiri Kazuyoshi. For her significant commitment to the film industry as an actor, she has been appointed Festival Navigator for the 37th TIFF. Beyond her powerful gaze, we hope to present a new landscape of cinema. The poster images were created by Japanese fashion designer Koshino Junko, who has designed TIFF’s visuals since 2021.

"I hope that films and people who love films will be firmly connected in Tokyo. This film festival will take place in a special city in the world, and I will do my small part to brighten it up." Rinko Kikuchi commented.

The 37th TIFF opening ceremony will again take place at the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater, while the closing ceremony will again be held at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya. Screenings will take place at four large theaters, Marunouchi TOEI, Marunouchi Piccadilly, TOHO Cinemas Hibiya and Yurakucho Yomiuri Hall, as well as TIFF’s regular theaters: Kadokawa Cinema Yurakucho, Cine Switch Ginza, Humantrust Cinema Yurakucho and TOHO Cinemas Chanter.

TIFF continues to establish stronger ties with leading companies in the Hibiya-Marunouchi area, such as Mitsui Fudosan and Mitsubishi Estate, and is working closely with local administrations such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Chiyoda City and Chuo City. Additionally, the Zen-Ginza-kai, the Ginza area’s shopping and business association, and other local organizations will collaborate with TIFF to further enliven the area during the festival. With the support of our generous sponsors, TIFF will continue to move forward, joining forces with our affiliate content market, TIFFCOM, which brings together film, television and animation industry professionals from around the world.
