Japanese artist Maki Ohguro won the KIMONO-IST 2025. She looks gorgeous in a silk Kimono while wearing a stylish sunglasses at the award ceremony.
"I'm currently in the middle of Japan tour, I'm honoured to be invited for this wonderful opportunity. I've had a long relationship with Jotaro Saito who helped me for my costumes in live shows. He designed this kimono, the combination of strength and delicacy, like a rock star who playing the Japanese drums.
A kimono is tailored by delicate threads and layered up by an artisan's hands, similar to create a music. I also feel today's style has a theme about "co-existence of delicacy and boldness". I'd like to continue to express myself in my own way through my songs and fashion,"
Maki Ohguro's songs are always filled with straightforward passion and messages. Her lifestyle which evolves alongside her music, is a symbol of the "supple strength" and match with kimono culture.
The Kimono made for Maki is a one-of-a-kind kimono made from "Tsumugi fabric (紬)" with tornado-shaped tie-dye (Tatsumaki Shibori - 竜巻絞り) pattern. The bold color scheme features gradations of blue, purple and pink, paired with a deep burgundy sash (Obi) that incorporating the European design. It's a style that combine the rock essence with Japanese traditional beauty.
