The MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2026 (#MAJ) officially kicked off its festival week with an explosive tribute to Japanese hip-hop history.
On June 8, 2026, Zepp DiverCity (TOKYO) transformed into an arena for "THE SUCCESSOR MAJ HIP HOP TRIBUTE". Co-produced by Takagi Kan, Zeebra and YZERR, the opening night celebrated over 40 years of the culture.
While the night featured the rap performances, the crown jewel of the evening was an absolute masterclass in talent: the legendary BBOY SHOWCASE!
The B-Boy Showcase was a breathtaking display of the power moves, intricate footwork and pure cultural heritage. It brought original pioneers who built the foundation of Japanese street dance along with modern world champions who dominate the global stage.
The stage erupted as iconic heavyweights and elite breakers united for an unforgettable cipher.
• DJ BEAT & CRAZY-A: The true founding fathers who set the standard decades ago.
• HORIE (Harucalloway) & Machine Harada: Pioneers who carried the flame and structured the community.
• KATSU ONE: The globally respected visionary bridging Japanese break dancing to the world.
• TENPACHI, RAM, & SHUTO: The dynamic masters unleashing unmatched athletic creativity.
• ONIGIRI, REN & YURIE: The next generation vanguard demonstrating flawless musicality and style.
From nostalgic locks to modern moves, the show proved exactly why Japanese style breakdancing is regarded as one of the world class performances.
The entire festival builds toward the main event: the MAJ 2026 Grand Ceremony on Saturday, June 13, hosted by Masaki Suda at TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO.
Featuring nominations for top-tier superstars like Fujii Kaze, Kenshi Yonezu, Mrs. GREEN APPLE, and Sakanaction, the world will be watching as Japan honors its finest musical achievements!
