Exclusive interview: ＜樂-STAR (ROCK-STAR)＞ SKZFLIX - Straykids Short film Director Byeongjune Kim

After ＜樂-STAR (ROCK-STAR)＞SKZFLIX, a short film starring by Stray Kids members was released previously in Korea and also streaming worldwide via YouTube, many fans are exciting to know more the story behind the scenes. Fortunately, we received an opportunity to have exclusive interview with BYEONGJUNE KIM, a Korean director who make the film after its Japan premiere in Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2024, one of the biggest short film festivals in the world.

inStyle Asia: What is your idea to make this short film?

Byeong-june Kim: At the beginning, i was asked to make a film series about stray kids and make the plan for the Idols who are starring dramatically.

inStyle Asia: How about casting the main characters?

Byeongjune Kim: Stray kids members have their own character and also related each other. When i was asked to make the film, all Stray kids' members keep their own character while they are encountering in different world, and spread in a different story.

inStyle Asia: How you describe about your directing style or your working style for this film?

Byeong-june Kim: I'm preparing well in advance before shooting. I'm expecting some mistakes which is also interesting, it might happened during we are shooting.

inStyle Asia: Your most favourite scenes and why you liked it?

Byeong-june Kim: There are two scenes i liked, the first one is the scene when they riding the bicycle together and found the actors who they are looking for, and the ending scene when a boy found his friend who disappeared mystically. I think, these two scenes is the most cinematic shots in the film.

inStyle Asia: In your opinion as a new wave director from South Korea who grew in social media society, do you think K-POP is really influencing and catching young's hearts worldwide?

Byeong-june Kim: Recently, in South Korea, many young directors are able to access many types of culture, under the atmosphere when people can send and receive information easily, so they can express what they wanted and show their contents.

Also in Korea, they are a culture about making idols. It's also K-POP. When young idols met film makers, the strong synergies were born at that time before they were beloved by all.

inStyle Asia: In your opinion, what is the definition about 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦?

Byeong-june Kim: Basically I think, "LOVE" itself is generous and  borderless so if audience can feel the LOVE through this film, that's called "LOVE". 

inStyle Asia: Why you named your film's title ＜樂-STAR (ROCK-STAR)＞ SKZFLIX ?

Byeong-june Kim: Actually when we making the film, SKZFLIX is the name of Stray Kids's album so we are making the story about them and also this film's title is my project name  ＜樂-STAR (ROCK-STAR)＞

inStyle Asia: Oh! I see. How about your next project and what genre you want to make for the next one?

Byeong-june Kim: Now, I'm writing the script about the story with the scene of Gangnam district in Seoul city. That area, there are many properties of rich people, people came to meet at somewhere they don't know and the rich people came to meet at a brightened place. 

inStyle Asia: So great! Did you decide who will be the actors?

Byeong-june Kim: I think there are couple of actors who interested in my script (laugh)

Strays Kids won grand prize in 1st ASEA2024 at Yokohama Japan

On 10 April 2024, ASIA STAR ENTERTAINER AWARDS 2024 (ASEA 2024), an awards ceremony where Asia's top artists perform and gathering all fans around the world through music, held for the first times at K-Arena Yokohama, Japan.

Stray Kids won the Grand Prize in ASEA2024

Hosted by NEWSEN, a Korea's lead entertainment and sports media group with @STAR1, an online entertainment media that has published STAR & STYLE magazine for more 12 years, organized by the ASEA Organizing Committee and presented by ZOZOTOWN.

ASEA 2024 feature K-POP artists and Asian artists who have been active around the world from past year, gracing on the stage with spectacular performances and gathering all fans around the world through music.

Stray Kids won three awards including "ASEA THE GRAND PRIZE" or the Grand Prize (Daesang), TOMORROW X TOGETHER won 4 awards, and TREASURE won 3 awards. NCT WISH started the opening performance and then each award winners attended the awards ceremony with their stunning shows.

NCT WISH 

From the opening show, NCT WISH from SM entertainment performed 5 songs, started from "Girls' Generation's Genie", "SHINee's Lucifer", "SUPER JUNIOR's Sorry, Sorry", "TVXQ's "주문" (Jumun) from album Mirotic" and "EXO's "으르렁" (Growl)". 

FANTASY BOYS 

FANTASY BOYS showed "Potential" and "FANTASY × New Tomorrow" after all 11 member faces were presented charmingly on the big screen.

TWS

K-pop heart-throbs TWS came with their hit song "plot twist" and followed by "Oh Mymy : 7s". All members dancing cheerfully at the front of stunning screens on the stage such as the school playground, basketball gym, people on the street, train station, make connection among all worldwide fans and artists like they are staying around you anywhere you are through the music.

Billlie

Billlie catched all Japanese fans by a hit song in Japanese "DOMINO - butterfly effect (Japanese version)" and "RING Ma Bell (what a wonderful world)" with the disco ambient.

Creepy Nuts

Transformed the stage to a nightclub with a DJ booth, Creepy Nuts's R-Shitei and DJ Matsunaga played "Bling-Bang-Bang-Born", a worldwide Japanese hit song ranked no. 8 on the Billboard Global 200 this year.

NCT WISH 

NCT WISH made their first awards show appearance after debuted this year February as the final sub-unit of NCT with two hit songs "Hands Up" and "WISH", captured the DREAM moments and created a starry night by many colourful stars on the stage.

ATBO

ATBO were surprisingly added as a new lineup before the event and never made all worldwide fans disappoint by performing 2 songs on the stage "Next to Me" and "BOUNCE".

INI

INI, a Japanese boy band formed through the hit reality competition show Produce 101 Japan 2 showed two songs "LEGIT" and "DROP".

TOMORROW x TOGETHER 

TOMORROW X TOGETHER gathered all K-POP fans in Japan and MOA around the world with the song "Deja Vu" and "I'll See You There Tomorrow"

Soobin, one of TXT members said "First of all, thank you for this award. Over past year, we had many opportunities to meet many MOAs around the world, and we had made many  memories there. We will start our tour in May this year. We will do our best to show you on the stage, please keep watching us. Thank you so much."

NiziU 

NiziU, a Japanese girl group formed through the reality-survival program Nizi Project (2020) showed the song "Memories (Japanese version)","HEARTRIS" and "SWEET NONFICTION (Japanese version)".

JO1

JO1, a Japanese boy band formed through the first season of Produce 101 Japan perfomed the song "SuperCali", "HAPPY UNBIRTHDAY" and "Trigger".

Leader Shō Yonashiro said "I'm truly happy to receive such a wonderful award. JO1 still has a long way to go, so we will continue to work hard!" Shosei Ohira Shosei continuely showed his gratitude in Korean. Junki Kono also sent his love to fans all over the world and said  "JAM, see you again!"

THE RAMPAGE from EXILE TRIBE

THE RAMPAGE from EXILE TRIBE, a J-pop vocal and dance group formed and managed by talent agency LDH look gorgeous in glittering silver outfits while performing two hit songs "SILVER RAIN" and "CyberHelix".

TREASURE 

TREASURE from YG Entertainment with the song "BONA BONA" and "I WANT YOUR LOVE"

STAYC

STAYC with their hit songs like "Teddy Bear" and "Bubble" which ranked top in many popular music charts in South Korea.

THE BOYZ

THE BOYZ stunningly shine with the song WATCH IT (Rock version)" and "Breaking Dawn".

DAY6

DAY6 performed three songs including "Welcome to the show", "Zombie" and "Time of Our Life"

TAEMIN

TAEMIN participated in ASEA2024 as a solo artist with two iconic songs "The Rizzness" and "Guilty". SHINee's TAEMIN also attended the awards ceremony as a solo artist. After received 2 awards, "THE BEST PERFORMANCE (Solo)" and "THE BEST CONCEPTUAL ARTIST (Solo)", He said "Thank you for giving me such a precious award. I'm very grateful that you created a place for me to perform as a solo artist at the ASEA awards ceremony. I will continue to be someone who can give you good inspiration and good energy with good performances and good works. Thank you. I love you." He also talked to his Japanese fans in Japanese, "Thank you so much, everyone. Please continue to watch over the path I'm working on. I'll continue to work hard while thinking of you all, and thank you to the SHINee members too."

Stray Kids

Stray Kids closed the event through their hit songs, started from "Super Bowl", "Social Path (Feat. LiSA) (Korean Ver.)" and "특 (S-Class)". Moreover the group made an additional performance after received the grand prize with a song "특 (S-Class)" as encore song.
