After <樂-STAR (ROCK-STAR)>SKZFLIX, a short film starring by Stray Kids members was released previously in Korea and also streaming worldwide via YouTube, many fans are exciting to know more the story behind the scenes. Fortunately, we received an opportunity to have exclusive interview with BYEONGJUNE KIM, a Korean director who make the film after its Japan premiere in Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2024, one of the biggest short film festivals in the world.
inStyle Asia: What is your idea to make this short film?
Byeong-june Kim: At the beginning, i was asked to make a film series about stray kids and make the plan for the Idols who are starring dramatically.
inStyle Asia: How about casting the main characters?
Byeongjune Kim: Stray kids members have their own character and also related each other. When i was asked to make the film, all Stray kids' members keep their own character while they are encountering in different world, and spread in a different story.
inStyle Asia: How you describe about your directing style or your working style for this film?
Byeong-june Kim: I'm preparing well in advance before shooting. I'm expecting some mistakes which is also interesting, it might happened during we are shooting.
inStyle Asia: Your most favourite scenes and why you liked it?
Byeong-june Kim: There are two scenes i liked, the first one is the scene when they riding the bicycle together and found the actors who they are looking for, and the ending scene when a boy found his friend who disappeared mystically. I think, these two scenes is the most cinematic shots in the film.
inStyle Asia: In your opinion as a new wave director from South Korea who grew in social media society, do you think K-POP is really influencing and catching young's hearts worldwide?
Byeong-june Kim: Recently, in South Korea, many young directors are able to access many types of culture, under the atmosphere when people can send and receive information easily, so they can express what they wanted and show their contents.
Also in Korea, they are a culture about making idols. It's also K-POP. When young idols met film makers, the strong synergies were born at that time before they were beloved by all.
inStyle Asia: In your opinion, what is the definition about 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦?
Byeong-june Kim: Basically I think, "LOVE" itself is generous and borderless so if audience can feel the LOVE through this film, that's called "LOVE".
inStyle Asia: Why you named your film's title <樂-STAR (ROCK-STAR)> SKZFLIX ?
Byeong-june Kim: Actually when we making the film, SKZFLIX is the name of Stray Kids's album so we are making the story about them and also this film's title is my project name <樂-STAR (ROCK-STAR)>
inStyle Asia: Oh! I see. How about your next project and what genre you want to make for the next one?
Byeong-june Kim: Now, I'm writing the script about the story with the scene of Gangnam district in Seoul city. That area, there are many properties of rich people, people came to meet at somewhere they don't know and the rich people came to meet at a brightened place.
inStyle Asia: So great! Did you decide who will be the actors?
Byeong-june Kim: I think there are couple of actors who interested in my script (laugh)
