Louis Koo's "Behind the Shadows" will be premiered in Osaka Asian Film Festival - EXPO 2025

Osaka Asian Film Festival - EXPO 2025 start drom today until 7 September 2025.

The festival is proud to present the Louis KOO crime thriller "Behind the Shadows", the first title from the Malaysia arm of Louis KOO’s One Cool Group production company. Shot on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, the film pits a down-at-heel private investigator against a vicious serial killer targeting women.

It’s a game of cat and mouse and also a character study of people having to face betrayal in relationships with their partners. The film stars Louis KOO in a restrained role as a cynical PI and he is joined by Chrissie CHAU, Taiwanese actor LIU Kuan Ting (The Silent Forest), and Renci YEUNG (The First Girl I Loved, A Guilty Conscience). The film is a co-directorial work by Jonathan LI, who has many credits across a range of films such as Infernal Affairs III and The Silent War, and CHOU Man-yu, who is a writer by trade.

Osaka Asian Film Festival EXPO 2025 - OAFF 2026 will take place from August 29 to September 7 at venues in Osaka City, including ABC Hall, Theatre Umeda, T-Joy Umeda, Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka and Osaka City Central Public Hall.

Japanese film "Ginger Boy" by Tanaka Miki showing in Osaka Asian Film Festival

"Ginger Boy" will show in Osaka Asian Film  Festival. The latest work by director Tanaka Miki, starring by Kai Fujita , Kei Nakafuji , represent another side of working life and a phenomenon when young workers moved to the capital inside Japan. 

Kishida works as a bank employee in Kochi, a remote town in Shikoku. He was suddenly transferred to Tokyo head office. He decided to stay at the home of his high school friend, Kura, who was working as a part-time worker in Tokyo. 

Kishida, who likes to be alone, becomes exhausted by the new work environment, with its late-night drinking parties, and his life with Kura. Meanwhile, he learns that Kura may have mental illness. Kishida couldn’t leave his old friend behind, so he decided to stay at Kura’s place and canceled his appointment to visit a place to move into.

One day, Kishida could no longer tolerate Kura’s selfish behavior and left his room impulsively. Finally being alone, Kishida decides to end his relationships with Kura and his girlfriend Yuzuha and start a new life in Tokyo.

The Red Envelope is one of Thai films premier in OAFF - EXPO 2025

Global artist SHAUN will release a new song "Night Walk"

SHAUN, a singer, song writer and global artist who released a single "Pixels" on May this year. Now he will release his second single, "Night Walk," on various streaming platforms on July 30, 2025.

Koji Mukai meets Win Morisaki in Thailand-Japan film production "Love Song"

"LOVE SONG", a Japanese-Thai original film set in Tokyo and Bangkok, co-starring by actor Win Morisaki and Japanese -Thai half singer Mukai Koji (Snow Man), has been set to release in Japan theaters from 31 October 2025.

This original Japanese-Thai love story directed by Champ Weerachit Thongjira, a key person who are in behind the global hit Thai BL drama "2gether", which earned more 800 million views on YouTube and "The new global growth of Thai Pop and Boys' Love" was born since then.

National treasure Kabuki actor, "Kokuhō" set its showtime on 6/6

Kokuhō (国宝/ National Treasure), a new Japanese film showcasing the life of Kabuki stars spaning over 50 years since world war ended to the Japanese economic miracle era. Directed by Tokyo-born Korean director Lee Sang-il which is adapted from a novel by Yoshida Shuichi.

Moving from Nagasaki, Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo, tracing on the legacy of "Kikuo Tachinana" (Ryo Yoshizawa) who was left alone at age of 15 and dedicated his life as a national treasure Kabuki actor, along with "Shunsuke Ogaki" (Ryusei Yokohama, the heir of Kabuki master. "Ken Watanabe" takes the role of "Kanai Hanjiro", a Kabuki master who raised Kikuo.

The film is also supported by Ministry of Culture, to spread the Japanese culture to the global stage. It rarely to see this kind of film since "Farewell to My Concubine" by Chen Kai-ge and "the Overture" (Home Rong) by "Itthisoontorn Vichailak" swept the international awards long time ago. The film is set to release in Japan theaters nationwide on 6 June 2025.

Hearing a lost memories in "404 Still Remain"

Tracing on the life of two boys who have the same taste and still be happy in a place where they can't say out loud, and keep connection through the MUSIC and LOVE. Until one day, one of them suddenly make a departure like the meaning of the song they loved.

Uhm Ha-neul, a Korean director captured a new heartfelt story of two boys at a senior high school in Daegu, South Korea last 30 years ago. Kyung-Hwan (starring by Shim Hyun-seo) and Jae-Min (starring by Hyun Woo-seok) love the same Japanese song "Departure" by "GLOBE". While listening Japanese music and watching BL animation on internet is blocked and forbidden in South Korea.

They usually spent time together at school to share their favourite Japanese music through the same music player at a space where is free from all historical pages between Korea and Japan, in the mean time Korean LGBT community is deleted from majority and they are struggling to exist their own identity.

On the first snowy day, they appointed to meet and  separated on the same bus. Jae-Min never answered why they liked to stay and protect Kyung-Hwang. A  Japanese album Jae-Min returned him had a message he wanted to tell him. 30 years later, he found it and reminded to his lost memories in a "missing era" and motivated him back to Daegu again. 

Like the Taiwanese film "Your Name Engraved Herein" and Thailand's "The Love of Siam", LGBTQ in Korea is shaping and gradually developing, the director dropped a plot at the end when Kyung-Hwang living with his husband in Seoul and his mother accepted their relationship. But no one knew when legalized marriage will actually happen in South Korea.

The Paradise of Thorns make its Japan premiere in Osaka

The Paradise of Thorns or "Viman Naam" (วิมานหนาม) in Thai is one of the Thai Films which make its Japan premiere at Osaka Asian Film Festival 2025 at ABC hall in Osaka city.

The film tells the story of love, loss, and the struggle for property rights of a same-sex couple, set against the backdrop of a durian orchard in Mae Hong Son province, Thailand. 

Thongkham (played by Jeff Satur) and Sek (played by Toey Pongsakorn) are a gay couple who living together and built a durian orchard business on Sek's land. They dreamed for this durian orchard as their "paradise" or home of happiness. However, tragedy came when Sek suddenly passed away by an accident, forced  Thongkham to face legal challenges, as Thailand does not yet recognize same-sex marriage at that time.

When Sek died, all of his assets, including the properties and durian orchard, legally belong to Sek's mother (played by Sida Puapimol). Sek's mother moved in with her adopted daughter (played by Ingfah Waraha) and her younger brother, forced Thongkham to fight for reclaiming the property they created together.

The film set a question on the legal inequality experienced by a same-sex couple and the difficulties of living together in Thailand where majority still not accept about sexual diversity. It also explore the conflicts of interest, inheritance struggles and the struggle for justice.

Abang Adik is set to show in Japan theaters 31 January 2025

Warming this lunar new year week in Japan with a heartfelt story and friendship between two men in abandoned society

A story of two men who support each other in the lowest class of Malaysia at a dilapidated slum in Pudu district, Kuala Lumpur. Many poor people from various nationalities and backgrounds, who could be considered as 2nd generation illegal immigrants, live in this area.

Brothers Abang and Adi have been forced to live there without any ID cards. Even he is deaf and mute, Abang makes a steady living by working as a daytime worker in a market, but Adi connected with underground business where he can easily get cash and his actions are always in danger.

The film won 3 awards at Udine Far East Film Festival in Italy, first time for Malaysian film. Also received 19 awards at 16 film festivals around the world, including  US, Switzerland, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines and Japan. It was a huge hit when the film released in theaters at Taiwan and Malaysia, with more one million audiences!

The film is set to show in Japan theaters with Japanese title "Brother ブラザー 富都 (プドゥ)のふたり" from Sunday 31 January 2025! Co-starring by Hong Kong star Wu Kang-Ren and Jack Tan.

หนังเรื่องนี้คว้ารางวัลใหญ่ถึง 3 รางวัลจากเทศกาลหนัง Udine Far East Film Festival ในอิตาลี ถือเป็นครั้งแรกสำหรับภาพยนตร์มาเลเซียในเวทีนี้ นอกจากนี้ยังได้รับรางวัล 19 รางวัลจากงานเทศกาลหนังอีก 16 แห่งทั่วโลก รวมทั้งสหรัฐอเมริกา สวิตเซอร์แลนด์ จีน ฮ่องกง ไต้หวัน ฟิลิปปินส์ และญี่ปุ่น ได้รับความนิยมสุดๆ เมื่อหนังเข้าฉายในโรงภาพยนตร์ที่ไต้หวันและมาเลเซีย ด้วยจำนวนผู้ชมมากกว่าหนึ่งล้านคน!

Detective Chinatown 1900 (trailer)

From the Chinatown in Bangkok, New York, to Tokyo, " Detective Chinatown 1900" continuely bring us back in time to the bustling Chinatown of 1900s in San Francisco!

Takumi Kitamura's "Give Up the World Domination" (世界征服やめた) in Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2024

Riku Hagiwara (My Beautiful Man) and Hinata Doto (Tokyo Revengers), two lead actors from "Give Up the World Domination" (世界征服やめた) stuns on the stage after the film make its world premier in Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2024 (Autumn) at Odaiba district in Tokyo.

At the event, actor and J-POP artist Takumi Kitamura as a film director also sharing his experiences on the stage.

The film is inspired by a Japanese song from Fukashigi WONDERBOY, Takumi Kitamura as a film director, reinterpreted and told the story of salary man who spent most of time for work without knowing their own future and living in the limited freedom.
