"Behind The Screens", a Thai psychological drama film produced by Dream Maker Entertainment is set for release on July 23rd, 2026, starring by award-winning actors: Pong Nawat , Koy Rachawin, Ray MacDonald , Tae Pitisak , Boy Pitsanu , Meiko Chonnikan and Som Natwara.

Inspired by an Italian film "Perfect Strangers", the plot follows 7 close friends who gather for dinner and play a dangerous game, they must place their phones on the table and publicly share every incoming call, text message and email.

Morte Cucina: a New Way To Redefine "Food As Weapon"

Morte Cucina, a psychological thriller film that redefines the "food as a weapon" and a visceral revenge. Directed by Thai director Pen-ek Ratanaruang and captured by Christopher Doyle, the film blends aesthetics with psychological trauma and culinary meticulousness.

In Morte Cucina, director Pen-ek applies this methodical discipline to human vengeance. Co-written alongside Kongdej Jaturanrasamee, the mastermind behind Netflix 's Hunger.

Depicts "Sao" (Bella Boonsang), a chef who are hiding her deep trauma from the past in hometown. When her former abuser "Korn (Kris Srepoomseth) walks into her restaurant in Bangkok, she opens her menu. What follows is a masterclass in psychological manipulation where traditional Thai food becomes an instrument of revenge.

Christopher Doyle drenches the screen in signature neon palettes and humid countrysides. The cooking sequences are framed with an intimate intensity that makes hot oil, slicing blades, and boiling curries feel deeply threatening. Bella delivers a quiet performance. Thai Festival in Vietnam has broken a new record, drawing over 20,000 visitors to its second edition and cementing Hanoi’s status as one of the 6 global flagship cities selected by the Royal Thai Government to host its prestigious showcase worldwide.

This year’s festival wasn't just a celebration of flavor and fashion, it was a historic milestone marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand under a theme "Creative Thailand: The Pulse of Tradition".

The festival is one of the events showcasing Thai creative industries, culture, food, beauty and fashion in global stage, served as a living portfolio of the nation’s "Soft Power", also spotlighted the booming Thai beauty and fashion sectors, which are increasingly dominating the Southeast Asian market today.

For the 2026 edition, Thai festival in Hanoi took over the breathtaking Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long. In the heart of this UNESCO World Heritage site, the energy of Bangkok met the history of Hanoi. One of the highlights is the outdoor cinema experience, where the cool  breeze in March accompanied screenings of Thai films celebrating the enduring friendship between the two nations.

On the nights of March 28th and 29th, 2026, the citadel’s ancient walls glowed with the light of the  screen as audiences enjoyed the hit Thai films "The Con-Heartist" (อ้าย..คนหล่อลวง) and "Beauty and the Beat" (ดีว่า..ราวี) from GDH. It was a poetic fusion of culture: modern Thai storytelling set against the backdrop of Vietnam’s imperial legacy.

Among the 45 Thai Festivals organized in 32 countries, 6 venues were designated as the 6 Flagship Thai Festivals, namely Washington D.C., Beijing, New Delhi, Hanoi, Riyadh and Paris. Apart from the 6 Flagships, Thai Festivals will also be held in numbers of prominent cities, namely Tokyo, Seoul, London, Moscow, Canberra, Shanghai, Kunming and Taipei.

Thai star Bella Boonsang and legendary lensman Christopher Doyle in Tokyo, bringing the dark energy of Pen-ek Ratanaruang’s latest thriller to the global stage.

"Morte Cucina" is the dark thriller that united legendary Thai director Pen-ek Ratanaruang and iconic cinematographer Christopher Doyle, making its Asia Premiere at the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival , highlights a gripping story of culinary revenge starring by Thai actor Bella Boonsang and Kris Srepoomseth.

Following a waitress named "Sao" (Bella Boonsang ) who suffered from her traumatic past. Her fragile peace shatters when she met Korn (Kris Srepoomseth ). He doesn't recognize her at all. Sao became a homemaker and binding Korn to her through the traditional Thai dishes. 

Her secret weapon is her cooking skill, she crafts Thai meals that are literally called "Delicious to Death", by manipulating the nature elements "Earth, Water, Wind and Fire" through herbs in traditional Thai cuisine. The Legendary Lensman Behind Wong Kar-wai Returns with a Culinary Revenge Thriller film and Thai director Pen-ek Ratanaruang in Tokyo.

Christopher Doyle is globally revered for his collaborations with Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai , through the film "Chungking Express" (1994), "Fallen Angels" (1995), and "In the Mood for Love" (2000).

Tokyo now celebrated his chemistry with Thai director Pen-ek Ratanaruang . Morte Cucina marks their return to collaboration work after "Invisible Waves" (2006) and "Last Life in the Universe" (2003).

Association for the Promotion of Film Culture, in collaboration with THACCA support "mini theaters" (Micro Cinemas) in Thailand

On August 21, Association for the Promotion of Film Culture, in collaboration with THACCA (Thailand Creative Culture Agency) and Department of Cultural Promotion - Ministry of Culture, officially launched the first project to support and expand film screening opportunities in "mini theaters" (Micro Cinemas) in Thailand nationwide. 

This project is designed to create a new space for "differentiated movie," including Indies films, alternative films and experimental films. It not only create access from filmmakers to the audiences, but also aim to promote small cinemas as key players in the Thai film ecosystem, foster new audiences and provide a platform for creators to showcase their work that might be omitted to show on the big screen.

"Today, Thai film industry is still dominated by major film markets and major chain theaters. Micro Cinema is another answer that not only create a space for diverse films, but also opens the door for all audiences nationwide to experience a new dimension of the films", President of Association for the Promotion of Film Culture said.

In the 1st phase, 5 mini theaters from 5 regions (Bangkok, Chanthaburi, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen and Trang) were selected as model cities for Thailand's Micro Cinema Network. More 30 quality films will be screened over 3 months, including short films, feature films, documentaries and experimental films, along with special activities such as Q&A discussion with directors and actors, and many activities to create new generation filmmakers in local communities, schools and universities.

This project not only decentralizes the film screenings away from Bangkok, but it also sparks a new era for the Thai film industry, giving a truly “Brave” space for storytelling.

"A Useful Ghost", the first Thai film won the biggest prize in Critics Week at Cannes 2025

On May 22, the 185 Films page, an independent film company had announced that "A Useful Ghost", the first feature film by Thai director Ratchapoom Boonbanchachoke, has received the AMI Paris Grand Prize, the highest award that the committee will give to the best feature film of the year in the Semaine de la Critique competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Starring by Mai Davika Hoorne, Wisarut Himmarat, Apasiri Nitiphon.

After "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" by Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul won the Palme d'Or in the main competition last 15 years ago.

The page "Man On Film" also revealed the director's feelings while he receiving the top award at the Cannes Film Festival.

Thai filmmaker "Madiew" Chukiat Sakveerakul in FILMART 2025

Chiang Mai-born Thai film director "Madiew" Chookiat Sakveerakul from THACCA attends FILMART 2025 in Hong Kong.

He is known widely from "Love of Siam", Thailand's first BL film which is co-starring by renowned actor Mario Maurer and Pchy Witwisit as their first work in 2007.

Later he also released a film with Chiang Mai dialect and shooting at many beautiful film locations in his  hometown in "Home". While "Dew" is remade from a  Korean movie "Bungee Jumping of Their Own" and co-producing with CJ entertainment from South Korea.

His latest film "Taklee Genesis" received its Japan premiere on March this year. His films reflecting the "family life", "gender diversity" in Thai society and also added the political issues, to let audience think about in his film such as the same political turmoil always repeat many time in Thai history.

ผลงานของมะเดี่ยวเป็นที่รู้จักไปทั่วเอเชีย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเรื่อง “รักแห่งสยาม” ที่ถูกขนานนามให้เป็นหนังวายเรื่องแรกของไทย ฉายครั้งแรกในปี 2550 ต่อมา เขายังกำกับหนังที่ใช้ภาษาถิ่นภาคเหนือ รวมไปถ่ายทำในโลเคชั่นอันสวยงามมากมายที่จังหวัดบ้านเกิดของเขาในเรื่อง “โฮม” ขณะที่หนังเรื่อง “ดิว ไปด้วยกันนะ” ที่รีเมคจากหนังเกาหลีเรื่อง "รักแรก...ครั้งสุดท้าย" ร่วมสร้างกับบริษัท CJ entertainment ของเกาหลีใต้ ก็เป็นหนังที่พูดถึงกล่าวถึงอย่างมาก หนังเรื่องล่าสุดของเขาอย่าง “ตาคลี เจเนซิส” เพิ่งเปิดตัวในญี่ปุ่นไปเมื่อปลายเดือนมีนาคมที่ผ่านมา 

จุดเด่นในหนังที่เขากำกับยังสะท้อนภาพ “ชีวิตครอบครัว” และ “ความหลากหลายทางเพศ” ในสังคมไทยตั้งแต่ช่วงแรกๆ ที่กลุ่ม LGBTQ ยังไม่เป็นที่ยอมรับอย่างในปัจจุบัน นอกจากนี้เขายังใส่ประเด็นทางการเมืองพร้อมตั้งคำถามให้ผู้คนได้ฉุกคิดในหนังด้วย เช่น ความวุ่นวายทางการเมืองแบบเดิมๆ มักเกิดวนเวียนซ้ำไปซ้ำมาหรือที่้เรียกว่า "ประวัติศาสตร์ซ้ำรอย" ตลอดช่วงเวลาอันยาวนานในยุคประชาธิปไตยของไทย

チェンマイ出身のタイ監督とタイ映画監督協会の会長『マディウ・チューキアット・サクウィラクル氏』が香港のFILMART2025に来場した。

2007年に公開されたタイ初のBL映画『Love of Siam』はアジアによく知られて、タイ俳優のマリオ・マウラーとピッチー・ウィットウィシットが共演している最初の作品でした。その後、チェンマイ弁で喋る『ホーム』には彼の故郷に隠れる美しいロケ地で撮影した。『ディウ』は韓国映画「バンジージャンプする」からリメイクしたタイ版の作品で韓国のCJ entertainmentと共同制作した。最新作品『タクリージェネシス』は今年3月に日本初公開された。

Thai actor "War" Wanarat in Osaka Asian Film Festival 2025

After years of phenomenal growth, 2025 proved to be a watershed year with Thai films like "How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies", "A Useful Ghost", "Paradise of Thorns" and many more.

"War" Wanarat Ratsameerat attended a special event called "Thai Matinee" and "Thailand Night" at Osaka Asian Film Festival as a lead actor of the film "Taklee Genesis" by director "Madiew" Chookiat Sakveerakul which made its Japan premiere at the festival, supported by Thailand government (THACCA).

"Taklee Genesis" focuses on a single mother named "Stella" (Paula Taylor). She returned to her hometown and  find her father who disappeared for 30 years by a  time machine created by US military known as "Taklee Genesis" in cold war era. The film blended the sci-fi action story with Thai folklore, Thailand political  history, zombies and kaiju. The film is distributed by Warner bros, the first Thai film handled by the Hollywood studio in the country.

"War" Wanarat is a Thai actor and singer best known for his lead role as "Mark" in a hit Thai BL drama "LOVE MECHANICS", starring with Anan Wong (Yin).

The Paradise of Thorns make its Japan premiere in Osaka

The Paradise of Thorns or "Viman Naam" (วิมานหนาม) in Thai is one of the Thai Films which make its Japan premiere at Osaka Asian Film Festival 2025 at ABC hall in Osaka city.

The film tells the story of love, loss, and the struggle for property rights of a same-sex couple, set against the backdrop of a durian orchard in Mae Hong Son province, Thailand. 

Thongkham (played by Jeff Satur) and Sek (played by Toey Pongsakorn) are a gay couple who living together and built a durian orchard business on Sek's land. They dreamed for this durian orchard as their "paradise" or home of happiness. However, tragedy came when Sek suddenly passed away by an accident, forced  Thongkham to face legal challenges, as Thailand does not yet recognize same-sex marriage at that time.

When Sek died, all of his assets, including the properties and durian orchard, legally belong to Sek's mother (played by Sida Puapimol). Sek's mother moved in with her adopted daughter (played by Ingfah Waraha) and her younger brother, forced Thongkham to fight for reclaiming the property they created together.

The film set a question on the legal inequality experienced by a same-sex couple and the difficulties of living together in Thailand where majority still not accept about sexual diversity. It also explore the conflicts of interest, inheritance struggles and the struggle for justice.

Thai Film Goes Global: FILMART 2025

The 29th Hong Kong International Film & Television Festival, “FILMART 2025” and Entertainment Pulse, a Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) event was launched from 17 to 20 March 2025 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wanchai district, Hong Kong.

FILMART is part of Entertainment Expo Hong Kong, which started from 16 March to 27 April 2025. This year, there were more 760 exhibitors from 34 countries and regions with more 30 country booths, including 7 new booths: Australia, Cambodia, France, India, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam, as well as first-time participants from Armenia, the Czech Republic and Kazakhstan.

Dr. Peter K N Lam, Chairman of the HKTDC, announced the theme “Dare to Change, Dare to Excel” for this year, aimed to promote cultural exchange and cooperation, and launched the “Hong Kong Film Music Fiesta” to connect the film and music industries. “FILMART is more international than ever this year as Asia’s leading entertainment market.” he said.

More 100 exhibitors from 7 ASEAN countries, including Thailand which returned to the event with a larger size of the pavilion after success on last year. This year, there are many Hong Kong Participants such as Emperor Motion Pictures, Media Asia, Golden Scene and Mei Ah Entertainment, presented the latest films and business development plans, as well as RTHK, Television Broadcasts Limited and educational institutions such as Hong Kong Baptist University.

All the lead participants from China also joined such as Tencent Video, Bilibili, iQiyi and Alibaba Group, along with many big pavilions from major provinces in China such as Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Hubei, Beijing and Shanghai, jointly exported Chinese films to the global market. The new AI technology for creating the film also captivated many visitors to know and get updates from many lead makers.

Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and Ministry of Culture, brought Thai entrepreneurs to join the event at the Thailand Pavilion under the theme “Thailand Where Films Come Alive”  with 37 companies, divided into 4 groups.

1) Film producers and film distributors 15 companies
2) TV program and drama producers 6 companies
3) Film and video related services 6 companies
4) BL content 10 companies

Thai Night event on March 18, 2025 is held at JW Marriott Hotel, presided by Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana Raja-Kanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi, aimed to connect the cooperation between business people in the entertainment industry, film directors and actors from Thailand and abroad and to promote Thailand's excellence in many dimensions, including Talents / Filming Location / Production / Post-Production / Government Support.

More 400 participants attended and Thai cuisine is also introduced to international guests from Thai SELECT restaurant in Hong Kong. The “FILMART” is an important platform for disseminating Thailand’s soft power, creating opportunities and promoting the potential of Thai entrepreneurs to compete in the international market.

Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, has joined hands with 3 agencies to announce the success of bringing 37 Thai entertainment entrepreneurs to participate in the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market 2025 (FILMART) in Hong Kong securing over 2,292 million baht in sales of film, drama, and series content, moving forward to promote Thai entertainment industry in global stage.

Ms. Sunantha Kangwalkulkij, Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion revealed about participating in FILMART 2025 this time, DITP, the Ministry of Commerce, has integrated cooperation with 3 partner agencies: the Ministry of Culture, the Department of Tourism, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, together with the Subcommittee on Driving the Film, Documentary, and Animation Industry. 

Participating in FILMART, the largest global content marketplace in Asia, has achieved its target with total trade value of 2,292 million baht, while providing opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs to expand their international business networks.

“Thai entertainment industry, including movies, dramas and series, one of the country’s important soft powers, has received a huge attention from oversea buyers, resulting in content trading and further cooperation in joint investment, production and market expansion in the future,” said Ms. Sunantha.

She continuely said "In our Thai Pavilion, FRT Entertainment received huge attention from South Korea and Malaysia, as well as China. They interested in co-organizing the Fan Meeting for Thai BL series actors. Lockman 2011 negotiated with an US company. They wanted to shooting in Thailand with a film project worth 2 million US dollars (68 million baht) and M Distribution company negotiated with an Indian company to purchase the rights to release a movie "The Stone", marking the first time the company had purchased the rights from the Indian market.

Ms. "Nong" Arunocha Panupan, the producer of Broadcast Thai Television, one of the lead drama production in Thailand said that she was very happy to have an opportunity to participate in Hong Kong FILMART, which was supported by the Ministry of Commerce and many other agencies. This time, she brought two BL series and many other series also received good feedback from both the Asian market and Japan, India also came to watch.
